Which Discord banner size do you need?

A profile banner sits behind a person's profile. A server banner sits above a community's channel list. Start with the place where your image will appear.

Personal profile

680 × 240

Discord's Custom Profiles guide sets this minimum for a personal banner. It accepts PNG, JPG or animated GIF under 10 MB. Uploading an image banner requires Nitro.

Discord recommends at least this size for a server banner. Static banners are a Level 2 boost perk; animated ones require Level 3, with separate eligibility for Partner servers.

Per-server personal profile

The separate Per-Server Profiles guide lists this recommended minimum. It is a personal profile customized for one community, not that community's channel-list banner.

Official sources checked September 22, 2026. The guides describe different profile surfaces, which is why both 600 × 240 and 680 × 240 appear. This tool uses the dimensions associated with each named preset.

Resize a banner in three steps

1. Pick the destination

Choose profile, server or per-server profile above. Add a static image with enough resolution for the output. Small sources can be enlarged, but may look soft.

2. Set the framing

Fill crops the edges while preserving proportions. Move the horizontal and vertical sliders to keep your subject visible. Fit keeps the whole image and adds padding instead.

3. Review and download

Check the preview and generated file size. PNG keeps transparency; JPG uses your chosen background color. Save the file, then upload it in Discord's relevant profile or server settings.

Make room for the name, not just the picture

For a 960 × 540 server banner, Discord recommends keeping the top 48 pixels simple. The dashed guide in server mode marks that strip; it is never included in the downloaded image. Avoid placing important text or a face at the edge, and check the finished banner in Discord on both desktop and mobile.

If your image loses too much when cropped, try Fit. Transparent PNG padding may blend differently with Discord's theme; choose JPG and a solid background if you want predictable padding.

Banner resizing questions

Is a Discord banner 600 × 240 or 680 × 240?

Discord's Custom Profiles article currently lists 680 × 240 for a personal profile banner. Its Per-Server Profiles article lists 600 × 240 for that separate profile feature. The server's channel-list banner is wider vertically: 960 × 540. Match the preset to the destination.

Can I resize an animated GIF here?

No. This banner tool handles static PNG, JPG and WebP images, and exports PNG or JPG. It rejects GIF and detected animated PNG/WebP rather than silently dropping their animation. Discord itself supports animated banners when your account or server is eligible.

Will resizing get my file below 10 MB?

There is no automatic compression guarantee. The generated byte size appears before download, and profile outputs at or above 10 MB are flagged. JPG can be smaller for photographs. The personal profile limit is not presented here as a published server-banner limit.

Why is my banner blurry or cropped?

Enlarging a small image cannot add real detail. Start with a larger source. Fill crops to the selected shape without stretching; move the sliders or choose Fit to keep the whole image. Discord may render or crop the uploaded banner differently on its own surfaces.

Do I need Nitro to use this resizer?

No account or subscription is needed for this tool. Discord's own eligibility rules still apply when you upload: personal image banners need Nitro, while server banners have separate boost or Partner requirements.

Are my pictures uploaded?

No. Image decoding, previewing and export happen in this browser tab. The page may load ordinary services such as analytics and fonts, but it does not send your image to an image-processing server.
